Subway Australia Launches Five New Rice Bowls

The new menu includes Chicken Teriyaki, Green Goddess Chicken, Green Goddess Falafel, Korean-Style BBQ Steak and Japanese-Style Chicken Rice Bowls, with each option served warm and available in regular and large sizes. The national launch follows a smaller Gold Coast trial earlier in 2026.

Five Subway Rice Bowls Are Now Available
The new range gives you a different base to the bread and wraps normally associated with Subway. Every bowl uses cooked brown rice, together with vegetables, a protein or falafel and a matched sauce.
The Chicken Teriyaki Rice Bowl combines teriyaki-glazed chicken strips with brown rice, lettuce, spinach, tomato, cucumber, carrot and onion, finished with Sweet Onion Sauce.
The Green Goddess Chicken uses rotisserie-style chicken, brown rice, avocado, lettuce, spinach, tomato, cucumber and beetroot with Green Goddess Dressing. Its meat-free counterpart, Green Goddess Falafel, swaps the chicken and avocado for falafel, carrot and onion while retaining the Green Goddess Dressing.
For something different, Japanese-Style Chicken combines chicken schnitzel with brown rice, lettuce, spinach, cucumber, onion and carrot, topped with Japanese-style toasted sesame mayonnaise.
The fifth choice is Korean-Style BBQ Steak, made with diced steak, brown rice, lettuce, spinach, cucumber, onion and carrot with Subway’s Spicy Korean BBQ Sauce.
Subway says the bowls are offered in regular and large sizes, rather than having a single standard serving.
Regular Bowls Range From 265 to 389 Calories
Subway has already published full Australian nutritional information for the range.
For the standard recipes, the regular Korean-Style BBQ Steak is the lowest-energy bowl at 265 calories, followed closely by Chicken Teriyaki at 274 calories. Japanese-Style Chicken is listed at 370 calories, Green Goddess Chicken at 378 calories and Green Goddess Falafel at 389 calories.
The large servings are considerably bigger. Subway lists the large Korean-Style BBQ Steak at 519 calories, Chicken Teriyaki at 536 calories, Japanese-Style Chicken at 729 calories, Green Goddess Chicken at 744 calories and Green Goddess Falafel at 767 calories.
Those numbers apply to Subway’s standard published recipes. Subway notes that nutrition can vary because of ingredient suppliers, region and differences in restaurant preparation. Any customisations would also change the final nutritional values.
The Rice Bowls Follow an Earlier Gold Coast Trial
The broader release comes after Subway tested the Rice Bowl format on the Gold Coast earlier in 2026.
For now, the main change is significant for a chain still best known for sandwiches: five warm brown-rice bowls are now joining the Australian Subway menu, with chicken, steak and falafel options and both regular and large serving sizes.
