Subway Subcard Is Now Closed: Here’s How to Claim a Refund for Unused Gift Dollars

Subcard Refund

Subway Australia’s Subcard Loyalty and Gift Program has now officially closed, but customers with unused Gift Dollars may still be able to recover their remaining balance.

Subway Australia’s Subcard Loyalty and Gift Program has now officially closed, but customers with unused Gift Dollars may still be able to recover their remaining balance.

The program closed at 11:59pm on August 31, 2026, and Subway’s new Gift Dollar Refund Program is now live. Eligible customers can submit a refund request for valid and unexpired Gift Dollars, with approved refunds issued as a Digital Visa Prepaid Card rather than being returned to a bank account or converted into Subway credit.

You Can Now Claim a Refund for Remaining Subway Gift Dollars

Subway’s dedicated Australian refund website became available from September 1, 2026, following the closure of Subcard.

You can apply if your Subcard account or Subway Gift Card still contains Gift Dollars that have not expired when you lodge the claim. Subway makes an important distinction between Gift Dollars, which came from money loaded onto a card, and Reward Dollars that were earned through the old loyalty program.

Reward Dollars cannot be refunded. Any unused Reward Dollars remaining when the program closed have expired, while qualifying Gift Dollars can be submitted through the new refund process.

There is no single advertised final refund date applying to every customer. Instead, your eligibility depends on the expiry of your particular Gift Dollars. If the Gift Dollars expire before you submit your request, Subway says they cannot be refunded.

How to Apply for Your Subway Gift Dollar Refund

You need to download and complete the Subcard Gift Card Refund Request Form from the official refund website.

The completed form then needs to be emailed to Blackhawk Network Australia, which has been appointed to administer refunds for Subcard Australia. You may also be asked to provide supporting documentation such as a photo of your Gift Card, a screenshot of your Subcard account or proof of purchase, depending on the information available for your card.

If you have more than one Gift Card, Subway says you need to complete a separate refund form for each card. You can send multiple completed forms together in one email, which Subway says is preferable to help avoid processing delays.

Approved Refunds Come as a Digital Visa Prepaid Card

You will not receive the unused balance back as cash into your bank account.

If your application is approved, Blackhawk Network Australia will issue the equivalent refund through a Digital Visa Prepaid Card, which is sent to the email address entered on your refund form.

Blackhawk says it aims to process approved refund requests within three business days, although incomplete applications can take longer if additional information is required.

That makes entering the correct email address particularly important. Subway also recommends making sure all requested information and supporting documents are included when you first submit the claim.

There is no fee to receive the refund. Subway and Blackhawk specifically warn that they will never ask you to pay a fee, provide your password or PIN, give them your full bank-card number or supply banking details for the Digital Visa Prepaid Card.

Gift Dollars and Reward Dollars Are Treated Differently

Subcard stopped allowing customers to earn Reward Dollars on June 30, 2026, before redemption ended with the program’s closure on August 31.

Any Reward Dollars that were not redeemed by the deadline are now expired and cannot be converted into a refund.

Gift Dollars are different. These represented prepaid value loaded onto Subway Gift Cards, and qualifying balances can still be refunded as long as they remain valid and unexpired when you submit the claim.

There is also a useful rule for cards where Gift Dollars were loaded at different times. Subway says the latest applicable expiry date applies to the total Gift Dollar balance on that card. For example, its official FAQ gives a card containing $2 loaded in December 2023 and another $3 loaded in February 2024, with the entire $5 balance expiring on the later February 2027 date.

The Subway App Is Staying, but Subcard Is Gone

The closure does not mean Subway’s Australian app is disappearing.

Subway says the app will continue to offer ordering, Click & Collect, delivery and app-exclusive deals, but the old Subcard loyalty and gift system has ended. Customers who did not opt to transfer their account may find their previous Subcard login no longer works and can instead create a new Subway login.

If you still have a Subway Gift Card with money remaining, the important change is that you can no longer spend those Gift Dollars at Subway after August 31. Your option now is to use the official refund program before the balance expires.
