McDonald’s Australia is bringing the legendary McGold Card to Australia for the first time, with eight people set to win what the fast-food chain is calling “Macca’s for Life.”

The nationwide promotion begins on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and runs throughout September through the MyMacca’s App.

Alongside the competition, McDonald’s will release a different Golden Deal every day during September, giving you a new app offer each day and a chance to enter the McGold Card draw.

What Is the McGold Card?

The McGold Card has developed an almost mythical reputation overseas, where versions of the card have been associated with celebrities and other high-profile recipients.

McDonald’s is now bringing the concept to Australia as a consumer prize.

There are eight McGold Cards to be won, with each major prize officially valued at $62,400.

When McDonald’s describes the prize as “Macca’s for Life,” it defines life as $30 worth of McDonald’s per week for 40 years.

That works out to:

  • $30 per week
  • $1,560 per year
  • 40 years
  • $62,400 total value

The card is intended for the winning cardholder and is based on up to two meals per week.

A New McDonald’s Deal Every Day in September

The competition also means September is shaping up to be a particularly interesting month for MyMacca’s App deals.

McDonald’s says there will be a different Golden Deal every day throughout September at participating restaurants.

Each Golden Deal will be available for a limited time, with the general conditions stating that offers are single use, limited to one redemption per person, and cannot be combined with another offer.

The Golden Deals are available through the MyMacca’s App only and exclude McDelivery and website orders.

McDonald’s has not yet published the complete calendar of September deals, so you’ll need to check the app each day to see what is available.

How to Enter the McGold Card Competition

The competition runs from 12:01am AEST on September 1 until 11:59pm AEST on September 30, 2026.

To enter, you need to be an Australian resident aged 15 or older and have the MyMacca’s App installed on a compatible smartphone.

You then need to:

  1. Open the MyMacca’s App.
  2. Opt into the McGold competition through the app pop-up.
  3. Make an eligible purchase through the app at a participating McDonald’s restaurant.
  4. Keep your electronic receipt as proof of purchase.

Once the eligible transaction has been processed, your entry is submitted automatically.

Importantly, you don’t necessarily have to purchase the day’s Golden Deal to enter. The detailed terms define eligible products as specially marked Golden Deals and other food or beverage menu items purchased through the MyMacca’s App, excluding Ronald McDonald House donations and merchandise.

You Can Enter Once Per Day

You can earn entries throughout September, but there is a limit of one competition entry per person per day.

That potentially gives you up to 30 entries across the competition period if you make an eligible transaction every day.

Making several qualifying purchases on the same day won’t improve your odds, as only one entry will be awarded for that day.

McDonald’s also says electronic receipts must be retained as proof of purchase.

Register Before September 1 for a Bonus Entry

There is also an opportunity to get started before the promotion officially begins.

McDonald’s says you can register in the MyMacca’s App before September 1 and receive a bonus entry when the competition kicks off.

The promotional page encourages you to register ahead of launch and enable app notifications so you don’t miss each day’s Golden Deal.

McDelivery Orders Don’t Count

One particularly important exclusion is McDelivery.

Orders made through McDelivery in the MyMacca’s App don’t qualify as competition entries. Orders made through the McDonald’s website and third-party delivery platforms such as Uber Eats and DoorDash are also excluded.

Your qualifying transaction therefore needs to be made through an eligible ordering method in the MyMacca’s App at a participating restaurant.

Eight People Will Win Macca’s for Life

McDonald’s will draw eight McGold Card winners following the end of the September promotion.

The draw is scheduled for 11am AEDT on October 13, 2026.

The first eight valid entries randomly selected will each receive a McGold Card worth $62,400.

Winners will be contacted by email within seven days of the draw.

Winners Actually Get Two Prize Options

There is an interesting detail buried in the full competition conditions: winners aren’t necessarily locked into receiving $30 per week for the next four decades.

After the first year, each McGold winner can choose between two fulfilment options.

The first is to continue with the McGold Card for the remaining 39 years, providing the full $62,400 face value across the 40-year period.

Alternatively, the winner can take $20,000 cash after the first year. Under this option, they receive a McGold Card worth $1,560 for the first year before receiving the $20,000 cash payment.

That means the alternative effectively provides $1,560 in McDonald’s value plus $20,000 cash, rather than continuing the card for another 39 years.

Another 40 People Will Win Macca’s for a Year

The eight McGold Cards aren’t the only prizes.

McDonald’s will also draw 40 minor prize winners, each receiving a “Macca’s for a Year” silver card valued at $1,560.

These cards are also based on $30 per week, or up to two meals per week, but run for one year rather than 40.

Across the eight major prizes and 40 minor prizes, McDonald’s lists the maximum total prize pool at $561,600.

How the McGold Card Actually Works

Despite its name, the prize isn’t an unlimited pass that lets you walk into McDonald’s and order whatever you want for free.

The McGold and silver cards operate as reloadable gift cards.

For the long-term McGold option, value is loaded onto the card periodically, with the terms stating it is reloaded every eight weeks with $240.

There is also a maximum spend of $200 per transaction, and the balance cannot be redeemed for cash.

So “Macca’s for Life” is more accurately described as a long-term McDonald’s allowance worth $30 per week rather than unlimited McDonald’s.

McGold Rush Is Also Coming to Bondi Beach

McDonald’s is running a separate McGold Rush competition at Bondi Beach on Friday, September 4.

That promotion takes the McGold hunt literally.

Registered participants will use a metal detector to search for buried tokens during the event. Entrants who locate designated tokens will progress to a finale involving 10 finalists.

The first finalist to locate the winning token receives another McGold Card, while the other nine finalists receive $500 Visa gift cards plus merchandise.

Registration for McGold Rush opens at 7am AEST on August 26 and closes at 1pm AEST on September 4, although participation in the first round is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Unlike the nationwide September competition, the Bondi promotion is restricted to eligible NSW residents aged 15 and over who can attend the event.

September Is Set to Bring 30 Days of McDonald’s Deals

Even if you aren’t particularly interested in winning a McGold Card, the accompanying promotion could be worth watching.

From September 1 through September 30, McDonald’s is promising a new Golden Deal every day through the MyMacca’s App.

Each eligible app purchase can also give you an entry into the draw, subject to the once-per-day entry limit.

With eight $62,400 McGold Cards, 40 Macca’s for a Year prizes and a new deal every day, September is set to be one of McDonald’s Australia’s biggest app promotions of 2026.
