KFC x Stranger Things Pop-Up: Free Food, 80s Nostalgia & the Upside Down Double in Sydney
KFC Australia and Stranger Things are teaming up for one of the most unexpected pop-ups of the year — a full 1980s-style fried-chicken diner hidden beneath Sydney. For two days only, you can step inside the Wynyard Tunnels and enter a retro world filled with arcade games, neon diner vibes, free KFC favourites and an early taste of a new burger from “the other side”.
Entry is free, with an option to reserve limited queue-skip tickets through Eventbrite.
The pop-up runs on:
Friday 28 November & Saturday 29 November
Sessions: 12:00–15:00 and 16:00–21:00
Location: Wynyard Tunnels, Wynyard St & Carrington St, Sydney NSW 2000
Enter via the Carrington St entrance at Wynyard Park and follow the signage down the escalators to the hidden portal opposite Coles Central.

Try the Upside Down Double Before Its National Release
Visitors will be among the first in Australia to try the Upside Down Double — a Stranger Things-inspired remix of the KFC Double.
This version flips reality on its head:
- Two Original Crispy fillets as the “bread”
- Soft bun inside
- Bacon & cheese
- New Stranger Sauce
It will be available at the pop-up ahead of its wider national rollout.
Free Food from KFC’s Past and Present
Across both days, KFC will be serving free food to attendees, including:
- Classic KFC chips, buckets and sides
- Saucy Wings from the Secret Menu
- The return of nostalgic 80s items like:
- The Works Burger
- 1980s Bean Salad
All food at the pop-up is completely free while you explore the diner and its Stranger Things-themed experiences.
Step Into Hawkins Fried Chicken
Inside the tunnels, you’ll walk into a full Stranger Things crossover diner titled Hawkins Fried Chicken, complete with:
- 80s playlists and neon lights
- Arcade machines
- Retro diner booths
- A Stranger Things-style portal to the Upside Down
Guests should also be prepared for “strange events”, immersive storytelling and plenty of photo moments.
Both under-18s and adults are welcome, with minors required to attend with a parent or legal guardian.
Tickets & Availability
Entry is free, but skip-the-queue tickets are limited. You can register via Eventbrite under Hawkins Fried Chicken – Wynyard Tunnels.
Sessions are spread across:
- Friday 28 November: 12:00–15:00 & 16:00–21:00
- Saturday 29 November: 12:00–15:00 & 16:00–21:00
Since food and capacity are limited, registering early gives you the best chance to secure entry without long waits.
With free food, exclusive menu items, themed rooms and an immersive Stranger Things storyline, this collaboration brings a slice of Hawkins to Sydney for a short time.
If you love KFC, retro arcades or Stranger Things, this pop-up is set to be one of the year’s most memorable food events.
